Dryden’s first annual Winterfest (www.ckdr.net) was a great success; families took part in kite skiing, horse carriage rides, an ice fishing derby, human checkers, shinny hockey tournament, free public skating, free pool/waterslide day, bonfire and hot chocolate at the Government Dock, snow machining…it was a great day with hundreds taking part. Next year’s event will sure to be even bigger. Local locum Dr. Rosie Yesovitch and husband (PGY1) Dr. Sam Stone had a great weekend, skiing/snowboarding/skating/ice fishing…they saw it all.
The Junior A Dryden Ice Dogs (www.drydenicedogs.net) needed overtime and then an exciting shootout to defeat the Sioux Flyers 3-2 Saturday night in front of a boisterous and rather large crowd. The Pee Wee Hockey Tournament brought 16 teams to town this weekend and many young players and families took in the game as a night out on the town. This was one of the busier weekends of the year with so much to do and the weather cooperating. I even tried the kite skiing and after a number of humbling lumps/bumps and wipeouts one catches on quickly. We are in the midst of organizing a DRHC weekend training session with the local Kite Skiing Club to introduce staff to this great sport.
This upcoming weekend brings Sno-cross to the Dryden Agricultural Centre grounds with high flying snow machines vying for top prize. The DRHC Family Fun Ski night runs this Saturday at the Dryden Ski Club; the third year medical students are joining staff for a night of fun on the hills. And familiar face and old friend Tyler Macgregor (4th year NOSM student) is visiting us this week for some OR time with Dr. Fairley (OBS/GYN Surgeon). That’s all for now! C
